Sourcing
We find things you won't find yourself.
Art and unique objects don't come from a price list. They come from knowing where to look. MOKU sources one-of-a-kind pieces through a network of dealers, artists, and market contacts across Indonesia.
Brief us, and we'll go find what your space is missing.
How we do it
Four steps.
Nothing purchased until you say so.
01 — Brief
You tell us what you're looking for. We'll send you a short set of standard questions covering the space, mood, scale, budget, and any references you have. Once we receive your answers, we'll follow up with a short clarifying conversation, a few questions back and forth to make sure we're searching in exactly the right direction before we start.
03 — Selection
We present 3 to 5 options. You receive photographs, descriptions, dimensions, provenance where available, and pricing for each piece. You choose what you want, ask for more, or tell us we're not there yet. No pressure, no clock running.
04 — Acquisition
We secure the piece. Once you confirm your selection, we issue a proforma invoice. A 50% deposit is required to proceed, this covers our purchase of the piece on your behalf. The remaining 50% is due before delivery. We then negotiate, acquire, and arrange delivery or shipping.
How payments work
01 — Sourcing fee
IDR 1,500,000 per brief, charged on confirmation. Covers the search: our time, travel, contacts, and the work of finding and presenting options. Non-refundable. Not applied toward the purchase price. This is what we charge to go looking.
02 — Deposit
50% of the purchase price, charged when you select a piece and confirm you want it. Nothing is purchased until this is received. This is what secures the object on your behalf.
03 — Balance
The remaining 50%, charged before delivery or shipping. The piece doesn't move until the balance is settled.

FAQ
What exactly does the sourcing fee cover?
If none of the options we present are right for you, the fee is not refunded, but you are welcome to submit a new brief at a reduced fee of IDR 750,000.
What if I don't like any of the pieces you find?
It happens, and that's fine. We present 3 to 5 options per search. If none of them feel right, we can discuss whether a second round of searching makes sense, sometimes the brief needs adjusting, sometimes the market timing is off. A second search would incur a reduced fee of IDR 750,000.
How long does the search take?
Typically 7 to 14 days from brief confirmation. If you have a deadline, an opening, a handover, a gifting occasion, tell us upfront and we will work to it where possible.
Can I buy a piece I've seen in your "Things we encounter" section?
The pieces shown there have been placed or are no longer available, we show them as examples of what we find, not current inventory. However, if something catches your eye, tell us. We may be able to find something very similar, or the same type of object from the same source.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We work with trusted freight partners for both domestic and international shipping. Costs and lead times depend on the size and fragility of the piece and the destination. We'll include shipping options in the acquisition stage.
What about customs and import duties?
For international shipments, import duties and taxes are the responsibility of the buyer and vary by country. We can advise on likely requirements and connect you with our freight partners for detailed guidance, but we are not able to cover or guarantee duty costs.
Can I commission a search for multiple pieces at once?
Yes, and it's often more efficient. If you're furnishing a space and need several objects, we can run a single sourcing brief covering multiple categories. Pricing is discussed case by case depending on the scope.
What if the piece turns out to be different in person from the photographs?
We photograph everything carefully and describe dimensions, condition, and any variations in detail. For antiques especially, we note any wear, repair, or restoration. If you are in Bali, you are welcome to view pieces in person before confirming. For remote clients, we can arrange a video walkthrough.
Is provenance guaranteed for antiques?
We document provenance where it is available and verifiable. Indonesia has a complex antique market and not every piece comes with a clear paper trail, we are transparent about what we know and what we don't. We will never misrepresent the age or origin of a piece.
How is payment handled?
The sourcing fee (IDR 1,500,000) is invoiced on brief confirmation and paid before the search begins. Once you select a piece, a 50% deposit secures it. The remaining 50% is due before delivery. We accept bank transfer in IDR or USD.
How is the purchase price calculated?
The purchase price is cost plus our sourcing margin, stated clearly on every invoice. You always know what the object cost and what our margin is.
What are you actually paying the sourcing margin for?
Access, relationships, and the work of acquisition. Finding the right piece requires years of contacts, time on the ground, and the judgment to know what's worth presenting and what isn't. The margin reflects that.
What payment methods do you accept?
Bank transfer in IDR or USD. Payment details are included on every invoice.
Is the sourcing fee per item or per brief?
One brief, one item. The sourcing fee of IDR 1,500,000 covers a search for a single piece. If you are looking for one specific object, a painting, a vessel, a textile, that is one brief.
What if I need several pieces?
If you are sourcing multiple items for a villa, a restaurant or a full interior, we can discuss a custom flat fee covering the entire scope. This is usually more efficient and better value than running separate briefs. Get in touch and we'll put together a proposal based on what you need.
Can I put multiple items into one brief?
Not as a standard brief. Each search is focused on one item so we can give it proper attention. If you submit a brief for multiple pieces under one fee, we'll come back to you to discuss scope and agree on a custom arrangement before we start searching.
When does it make sense to discuss a custom fee?
As a rule of thumb, if you need three or more pieces, it's worth having that conversation. Contact us with an overview of what you're looking for and we'll suggest the most practical and cost-effective way to structure the search.
